Ingredients

For the Stir-Fry:

  • 500g beef strips (sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced)
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Rice:

  • 2 cups jasmine rice
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

1. Prepare the Rice:

  1. Rinse jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a medium pot, combine the rice and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  3. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 12–15 minutes until the rice is tender.
  4. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.

2. Cook the Beef Stir-Fry:

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat.
  2. Add the beef strips and season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Stir-fry for 2–3 minutes until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Sauté the onions and garlic for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the bell peppers and stir-fry for another 2–3 minutes until slightly tender but still crisp.
  5. Return the beef to the skillet. Stir in soy sauce, sesame oil, and oyster sauce (if using). For a thicker sauce, mix cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water and add it to the pan.
  6. Cook for 2 minutes, ensuring everything is well-coated and heated through. Adjust seasoning if needed.

3. Serve:
Spoon the beef stir-fry over the jasmine rice. Garnish with sesame seeds or chopped green onions if desired.
