Chocolate Cake.

Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 1 ¾ cups (220g) all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup (65g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
  • ½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240ml) boiling water

For the Frosting:

  • 1 cup (230g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 ½ cups (440g) powdered sugar
  • ½ cup (45g) cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4–6 tbsp (60–90ml) heavy cream

Instructions:

For the Cake:

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed until smooth and well-combined.
  4. Add Boiling Water: Reduce speed to low and carefully stir in boiling water. The batter will be thin, but this is normal.
  5. Bake: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool: Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

For the Frosting:

  1. Cream Butter: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.
  2. Add Dry Ingredients: Gradually sift in powdered sugar and cocoa powder. Beat until fully combined.
  3. Flavor and Texture: Add salt, vanilla extract, and 4 tablespoons of heavy cream. Beat until fluffy. Add more cream if needed for a spreadable consistency.

Assemble the Cake:

  1. Level the Cake: If needed, level the top of the cakes using a serrated knife.
  2. Layer and Frost: Place one cake layer on a serving plate, spread frosting evenly on top, then add the second layer. Frost the top and sides.
  3. Decorate: Add sprinkles, chocolate shavings, or any decorations of your choice.
  4. Serve: Slice and enjoy your homemade chocolate cake!
